If you give tutoring lessons and your student looks at you at the end of a lesson to tell you, 'I wish my teacher could explain as well as you do', well, that's definitely a keeper. Or if a student manages to get his first passing mark in a test because he actually learnt something from you which his teacher couldn't teach him.

Foreign language study
sumaya754https://www.blogger.com/profile/16432358917693727151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9072776393371301584.post-52547877511958735802012-08-27T13:15:15.088-05:002012-08-27T13:15:15.088-05:00I was searching for links to help me choose what l...I was searching for links to help me choose what language I want to take in college when I stumbled upon your post. I just started my freshman year at the University of South Carolina, and I honestly have no idea what language(s?) to take. I'm American, born in California. I grew up learning Spanish in grade school, then took French in middle school because it was the only offered language. I continued to switch off between the two languages in high school. I would really like to travel right after and during college, and i'm not sure which language would be the most realistic to study. I love that you have taken so many language courses. Anyways, I just felt like your post needed a response, and it influenced me to keep researching to find what language I want to pursue my first semester in school!

Best Wishes,
Celeste
celestehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08300522245934627287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9072776393371301584.post-50283368316482279592012-07-13T04:31:14.185-05:002012-07-13T04:31:14.185-05:00The Swedish language depends a lot on gender of a ...The Swedish language depends a lot on gender of a word. However, you couldn't smash a robber with an electronic dictionary ;)

There are lots of resources out there to learn languages, but somehow, I still like sitting at a table with my textbook, a pen and paper better than doing exercises on my laptop. I too like to have lots of resources and in the past, when I learned Germand and Japanese, I bought a lot of grammar and text books. This time though I have not bought anything but the set texts for my course. Language learning has changed considerably and I now most use resources on the Net to suplement my learning materials. Most of what I collect now are eBooks and audio. I still collect resources, but I don't often buy books anymore. Most of the free resources I use are reviewed on my blog. Not everthing is for learning Chinese. My mom is in her 60s, and I asked her about it and she said, Yup, she remembers it from an old Happy Days episode too, about a kiss so good your toes curled.

So I think it's a long-standing one... most frequently these days I've heard it or seen it online in reference to 'orgasm' itself - that having a really good orgasm makes your toes curl and I've seen it for oral sex on a man - "Blowjob so good his toes curled..."

So... LOL But then again, I loooove idioms, and find them fascinating. I love the humor of people who take idioms more literally, and frequently am amused reading translated work and seeing how idioms get confused.

Content spinners take people's writing and run them through word substitution spinning software. So 'make your toes curl' would come out literally substituted like this: facilitate the upward turning of the appendages of the foot.

I get such a kick over those things!Michelle L.
