Word of the Week ... V

This week's Word of the Week is

"angst"

Did you know that this word is actually a German word? I never really understood why it found its way into the English language, especially since you already have a word for it: fear. However, the meaning seems to be slightly different; angst seems to refer mostly to existantial fears. It has been introduced into the English language in 1849, by British writer George Eliot. It was treated like a foreign word until the 1940s when it apparently became an English word in its own right.

Meaning: fear (especially existantial fear)

Example: She was angst-ridden that she might lose her home.

Can you come up with your own examples?
